Comparative Charting of Social Change

program page

CCSC is an international sociological program for the comparison of recent social trends in industrialized societies. It was founded in 1987. Different national teams have joined this international program in order to study the same period (from the 1960s to the 1990s) with the same purposes, which are the following:

  • to provide a comprehensive, numerically grounded description of recent social trends in industrial societies, using a common outline
  • to gather appropriate data bases for cross-national comparisons
  • to identify similarities and differences among the national societies with respect to ongoing social trends
  • to subject these similarities and differences to comparative studies
  • to establish benchmarks for future tracking of social trends
